How many children do you have? Husband and wife don’t have the same number.

Funny question in an assuming culture a quaint question is “How many children do you have?”  The most common answer in Philippine Christian culture is to say the number of children the wife has.  This shows the maternal centered family system.  Whereas in the Islamic polygamous system, a man is asked in total how many children he has like maybe 10 children distributed amongst 3 wives.

I joke about this with people and say I have x number of children with my wife.  He he he.

Well, at least I think I have x number of children… maybe I should do a DNA test on all of them?

And those who raise an eyebrow that a husband may have other children with his other wives or mistresses?  Be surprised no more, just look at your own fathers, grand fathers and great grand fathers and know that it is pretty darn common to have extra children.  If you are honest with your family history, your ancestor may have been the bastard or your mother may have been the “other woman”.

This is the kicker… most people will assume it is the man who wants to have extra women.  They can’t imagine that the extra women literally throw themselves at good men.  It is the polygamous women who demand polygamy.  Or that many times it is the #1 wife who demands the husband get himself extra women… how so?  How about wife files for early sexual retirement?  And her husband is handsome, strong and healthy at 35 years old… do you honestly expect him to sexually retire too?  Of course not.  Only bona fide deluded liars will believe so.

Live and let live I say.  This is why I clamor for the legalization of polygamy as an option for all.  Why only Islamics have the legal option to such a wonderful family system as polygamy.  You can’t assume non islamics are monogamous… anthropologically, people are polygamous by nature.
